Guidelines for a satisfying storytime experience:
- Please have me perform before you serve the cake.
- Provide a comfortable space for the children where battery-powered toys and media devices will not distract attention from the performance.
- Grownups often only get a chance to talk to each other when their kids are occupied. If you have a separate space for the grownups' conversations, the children can listen attentively to the stories and songs.
- Before the storytelling performance, make sure the children know where the bathrooms are. If the program takes place on a warm day, it's also a good idea to have drinking water nearby.
- A few adults should be actively present in the audience in the event a child needs to leave the circle for a few minutes.
- Each live storytelling experience is unique. Please feel free to join in with the singing and dancing! Some children will not want to be active participants, and that is fine. They are open and aware, and may surprise you afterward with what they remember from the program.
